What are Freshwater Science Leaders?
  • Freshwater Science Leaders (FWSL) is an enrichment programme offered to year 6 students at schools local to Tongariro National Trout Centre. Schools currently taking part are Kuratau, 

  • The programme immerses students in freshwater science and science communication, based at the Tongariro National Trout Centre.

  • It aims to push students to achieve higher potential, but also facilitate taking the new knowledge and enthusiasm back to their school. In this way it is aimed to have greater student engagement and ownership over freshwater knowledge.

Goals:

  • Delve deeper into science, science process, and freshwater science particularly

  • Gain skills/confidence in science communication to peers and others

  • Be inspired to share knowledge with others

  • Take on leadership roles in science
